On they went singing ' Eternal Memory',
and whenever they stopped, the sound of
their feet, the horses and the gusts of
wind seemed to carry on their singing.

立ち止まるたびに、足音や馬車や、一陣の風
さえもが、その歌をどこかへ運んでいくよう
に感じられた．

Eternal Memory：「永遠の歌」．どうやらロシア
の埋葬の歌のようです．
horses：「馬たち」と訳すべきだが、馬だけが
勝手に走って行ったのではないだろう．
「馬車」と意訳しました．
