language thoughts

I feel like getting my thoughts out in English for this entry. Learning a new language can be very humbling. My parents immigrated to the United States 20 years ago, and I cannot imagine being in their shoes. It's quite the challenge to go from a big city in Asia to a middle-of-nowhere place in the midwest. The people who pickup English the fastest often must put themselves out there. In other words, they must be ready to make mistakes. On paper, that saying seems generally simple. In practice, that seems like a lot, especially if you identify as an introvert (I in MBTI).
I want to study other languages because I want to communicate with a wider variety of patients in my future practice as a doctor. I know the United States provides language interpretation services, but there exists a cultural component that comes from learning a language in which I feel I need to grasp in order to provide the best care. You can only pick up such a thing when you immerse yourself. I studied Chinese and Spanish, so I hope I can pick up Japanese.
I am also inspired by an old friend. I feel like in high school I left behind lots of hobbies for the sake of studying to get into a good college. My friend never stopped his hobbies. He always strived for a work/life balance. I thought life was all about work, and I think I forgot about life. Man, life is too short. If you don't take the opportunity to do what you want, you're gonna lose it right?

Keep studying!
Well, I wish you the best of luck, and have fun learning Japanese!
I'm glad you agree!
Japanese is pretty challenging, but I think it's pretty fun so far. I am not used to so many verb conjugations, but with practice, I hope to improve. Everything does take some time. After all, American school never taught us grammar for English. They just expected us to know! Because I liked writing so much, I forced myself to learn English grammar conventions on my own. That process also took a bit, but it paid off!
I appreciate you saying the last part. It's encouraging to me! I will be sure to work hard!

Learning new language is really hard and exhausting, but it’s really fun talking to someone from a different culture is really fun for me.
I’m pretty sure that Japanese is one of the most difficult languages to learn though…
