On another day the angels came
to present themselves before the Lord,
and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.
この事があってから、御使いたちが再び神様の前に出た時、
サタンも同席していました。
And the Lord said to Satan,
“Where have you come from?”
神様はサタンに問いただしました。
「おまえはどこから来たのか。」
Satan answered the Lord,
“From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
「地球のパトロールから帰って来たところでさ。」
“From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
「地球のパトロールから帰って来たところでさ。」
Then the Lord said to Satan,
“Have you considered my servant Job?
「そうか。 で、おまえは、わたしのしもべヨブの態度を見たか。
There is no one on earth like him;
he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.
彼は世界でいちばんの人格者だ。
神は敬うし、いっさいの悪から遠ざかっている。
And he still maintains his integrity,
though you incited me against him
to ruin him without any reason.”
おまえは、わたしをくどいて、理由もないのに彼に危害を加えた。
ところがどうだ、あの信仰深さは。 これでもまだ、彼をけなすつもりか。」
“Skin for skin!” Satan replied.
“A man will give all he has for his own life.
「いのちが助かるためなら、人はどんなことでもしますよ。
But now stretch out your hand and
strike his flesh and bones, and
he will surely curse you to your face.”
今度はやっこさんを病気にしてみればいい。
きっと、面と向かってあなたをのろいますぜ。」
The Lord said to Satan,
“Very well, then, he is in your hands;
but you must spare his life.”
「何とでも気のすむようにするがいい。
ただし、彼のいのちだけは取らぬようにな。」

確かにこの内容ではそう見えますね。
ただし自分は、神様はサタンとか他の天使などとは違って
理由なく人を苛めることはしないと信じています。
たとえ、誰がこのように無辜の苦難を受けたら
神様からは必ずそれに（または幾つ倍にも）準ずる報酬があると思われます。
