One day a man who had an Israelite mother
and an Egyptian father came out of his tent
and got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.
イスラエルの女を母とし、エジプトびとを父とするひとりの者が、
イスラエルの人々のうちに出てきて、そのイスラエルの女の産んだ子と、
ひとりのイスラエルびとが宿営の中で争いをし、
During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman
blasphemed the Name of the Lord with a curse.
So the man was brought to Moses for judgment.
His mother was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.
そのイスラエルの女の産んだ子が主の名を汚して、のろったので、
人々は彼をモーセのもとに連れてきた。
その母はダンの部族のデブリの娘で、名をシロミテといった。
They kept the man in custody until the Lord’s will in
the matter should become clear to them.
Then the Lord said to Moses,
時に主はモーセに言われた、
“Take the blasphemer outside the camp,
and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head.
Then let the entire community stone him to death.
「あの、のろいごとを言った者を宿営の外に引き出し、
それを聞いた者に、みな手を彼の頭に置かせ、全会衆に彼を石で撃たせなさい。
Say to the people of Israel:
Those who curse their God will be punished for their sin.
あなたはまたイスラエルの人々に言いなさい、
『だれでも、その神をのろう者は、その罪を負わなければならない。
Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the Lord
must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel.
Any native-born Israelite or foreigner among you
who blasphemes the Name of the Lord must be put to death.
他国の者でも、この国に生れた者でも、主の名を汚すときは殺されなければならない。
“Anyone who takes another person’s life must be put to death.
だれでも、人を撃ち殺した者は、必ず殺されなければならない。
“Anyone who kills another person’s animal
must pay for it in full—a live animal for the animal that was killed.
“Anyone who injures another person
must be dealt with according to the injury inflicted—
もし人が隣人に傷を負わせるなら、その人は自分がしたように自分にされなければならない。
a fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Whatever anyone does to injure another person must be paid back in kind.
人に傷を負わせたように、自分にもされなければならない。
“Whoever kills an animal must pay for it in full,
but whoever kills another person must be put to death.
“This same standard applies both to native-born Israelites
and to the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.”
After Moses gave all these instructions to the Israelites,
they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him to death.
The Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
モーセがイスラエルの人々に向かい、
「あの、のろいごとを言った者を宿営の外に引き出し、石で撃て」
と命じたので、イスラエルの人々は、主がモーセに命じられたようにした。

「のろいごとを言った」だけで、石で撃たれて殺されることは、
これが 「イスラエル」人々の中で行われたからです。
イスラエルの人は神様が何度も死の危機から助けて下さったので
精神をかけて、力をかけて神様に報恩する義務があります。
でも、逆に彼らは旧約聖書全版で神様に向かって文句や不満を言うばかりです。
その愚かさに対する神様のお怒りは当然のことで
「のろいごとを言った」だけで、石で撃たれて殺されることは「自業自得」だと思います。
もしかして、アメリカ人や他の外国でこれがおこなわれたなら、
その結果は少し違ったかも知れません。
「のろいごとを言った」だけで、石で撃たれて殺されるとは・・・。厳しいですね。
でも、それは、死をもって償わなければいけないほど、重大なことなんですね。
