For even the Son of Man came
not to be served but to serve others
and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
「人の子がきたのも、仕えられるためではなく、仕えるためであり、
また多くの人のあがないとして、自分の命を与えるためである」。
a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road.
それから、彼らはエリコにきた。そして、イエスが
弟子たちや大ぜいの群衆と共にエリコから出かけられたとき、
テマイの子、バルテマイという盲人のこじきが、道ばたにすわっていた。
When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
ところが、ナザレのイエスだと聞いて、彼は
「ダビデの子イエスよ、わたしをあわれんでください」と叫び出した。
“Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him.
“Son of David, have mercy on me!”
多くの人々は彼をしかって黙らせようとしたが、
彼はますます激しく叫びつづけた、
「ダビデの子イエスよ、わたしをあわれんでください」。
“Tell him to come here.”
イエスは立ちどまって「彼を呼べ」と命じられた。
So they called the blind man.
“Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!”
そこで、人々はその盲人を呼んで言った、「喜べ、立て、おまえを呼んでおられる」。
Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.
そこで彼は上着を脱ぎ捨て、踊りあがってイエスのもとにきた。
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.
“My rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!”
その盲人は言った、「先生、見えるようになることです」。
そこでイエスは言われた、「行け、あなたの信仰があなたを救った」。
Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road
