The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests:
“A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master.
If I am your father and master,
where are the honor and respect I deserve?
You have shown contempt for my name!

「子は父を敬い、召使は主人を敬うものだ。　
わたしはおまえたちの父であり、また主人なのに、
おまえたちはわたしを少しも敬っていない。　
ああ、祭司たちよ、おまえたちはわたしの名をさげすんでいる。」

“But you ask,
‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’
「だれが？　私たちが、ですって？　いつ、神様の御名をさげすんだというのですか。」

“You have shown contempt by offering defiled sacrifices on my altar.
「わたしの祭壇に汚れたいけにえをささげる時だ。」

“Then you ask, ‘How have we defiled the sacrifices?”
「汚れたいけにえですって？　いつ、そんなことをしましたか。」

“You defile them by saying the altar of the Lord deserves no respect.
「いつも、おまえたちは言っている。　『わざわざ高価なものを神様にささげる必要はない。

When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn’t that wrong?
And isn’t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased?
Try giving gifts like that to your governor, and see how pleased he is!”
says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

祭壇にささげるのは、びっこの動物でたくさんだ。　
そうそう、病気のだって、盲のだってかまわない。』
これが悪いことではない、と言いはるのか。　
総督に、そんな贈り物をしてみろ。　
喜んで受け取るか、試してみるがいい。
