Hand-to-hand combat is an engagement
between two or more persons
in an empty-handed struggle or with handheld weapons
such as knives, sticks, and rifles with bayonets.
白兵戦は二人またはそれ以上の人数間、
素手で組み打とか、短刀や棒、銃剣が装着されたライフル等の
携帶用の武器で行う闘いである。
These fighting arts are essential military skills.
このような格闘技は非常に大切な戦闘技術になる。
Projectile weapons may be lost or broken,
or they may fail to fire.
彈丸基盤の兵器は紛失されたり、破損される可能性があり
さらにまた、誤作動の憂慮があるのである。
When friendly and enemy forces become so intermingled
that firearms and grenades are not practical,
味方も敵も皆混戦の状態となってしまい
小火器と榴彈が実用的な解答になれない場合、
hand-to-hand combat skills become vital assets.
