５月１０日といえば、サクサク的には、黒幕先生の誕生日(笑)、ということになる
わけだけれども、英文に日付を入れようとして、May 10thと打ち、それを口に出
して言った途端に、「タクシー・ドライバー」の「タクシー・ドライバーの日記」の
シーンを思い出した。

ロバート・デ・ニーロ扮するタクシー運転手の主人公が、日常の仕事の中で感じ
たことを、物憂げに語る名シーンである。記憶はあやふやなので、ネットから抜粋
させていただくと、

May 10th. Thank God for the rain which has helped wash away the garbage and trash off the sidewalks. I'm workin' long hours now, six in the afternoon to six in the morning. Sometimes even eight in the morning, six days a week. Sometimes seven days a week. It's a long hustle but it keeps me real busy. I can take in three, three fifty a week. Sometimes even more when I do it off the meter.

世の中にも、自分の仕事にもうんざりしているタクシー運転手の様子がよく分かる
けだし名文である。

なんで覚えていたかというと、バーナード・ハーマンの音楽目当てにサントラ盤を
買ったのだが、この日記の場面は、デ・ニーロの語りと効果音も収録されていた
から。ハーマンの音楽も、相当な名曲です。
